Android Cycling Apps

We are starting to see cycling apps for the Android. I expect before long Android will catch up to the iPhone in number of cycling apps.

Sporty Pal

GPS enabled SportyPal Bike app is available for iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile users. Log and map your position, movement, distance, tempo and calories burned. It will not affect normal operation of your mobile phone, so you can still listen to music, receive and initiate calls and messages.

VeloComputerAccording to VeloComputer it’s patented dual sensor accurately measures distance, spot speed, acceleration and cadence allowing the VeloComputer mobile application to calculate propelled power and other performance data.

Unlike traditional cycling computer sensors, which measure a full 360° (degree) wheel rotation, VeloComputer’s sensor technology is capable of detecting as little as 1° (degree) of wheel rotation. This unique sensing technology is at least 360 times more accurate than traditional sensors. It measures a spot speed and acceleration with less than 1 second delay comparing up to 7 seconds in traditional cycling computers.

VeloComputer is available for Android as well as the Blackberry, Apple iPhone and other smartphones.

Sports Tracker ProSports Tracker Pro has an impressive feature list. Heart rate is recorded via a bluetooth Zephyr™ HxM strap. Other features include: Record Tracks, Live Tracks, Upload Tracks, Spike Filter, Voice Feedback, Track Replay, Calories, Personal Bests, Performance, Auto Email Friends, Splits, Realtime Charts, Auto Facebook, Auto Twitter, Pause Function, Heart Rate, Cadence, Breathing Rate, Skin Temperature, Indoor training, Google earth & GPX download.

EndomondoAnother app with a very similar name is Sports Tracker from Endomondo: Sports Tracker is a web based app that gets its data from your mobile. When you log in, you enter your Home page. Here you find a Summary of your total workouts, see your Personal Best, a News feed that keeps you updated on your friends’ latest Workouts, give them a Peptalk if they are doing a workout now and you find an overview of your Invites and Challenges. When you log in for the first time, you will get help on how to download the Endomondo Tracker to your Android phone, how to upload workouts from other devices, and how to find friends along with other tips.

I believe Strava should be mentioned as well.
